The first step is to set up the pieces in a strategic order. Many chess-playing programs are intimidating for beginners, even at the easiest level, because they have a large opening book and can calculate dangerous combinations far beyond the analytic powers of most beginners. At its basic level, CLUELESS has absolutely no tactical or strategic sense, and no opening library. CLUELESS simply selects a move at random from the universe of legal moves. This makes it easy to beat, although it can still snap up the occasional hung piece and make surprisingly agressive raids.

The object of the game is to bounce a ball against bricks, destroying them and accumulating points. The ball must not make its way past your paddle, which you control using a mouse. Whenever the ball hits your paddle, it bounces back up at an angle relative to the place that the ball hits the paddle at. Knowing this, the ball can be aimed at targets, and with a little practice this becomes easy. DEMO.

I’m sure you’ve seen quite a lot of games that have the same idea as this one. In short the purpose is to eat as many candies as you can before the monsters get you (eventually, they will). There is also a super-candy in each of the corners which gives you a chance to eat the monsters for a while. The monsters turn white when you eat a super-candy. When the effect of super-candy is about to end, the monsters begin to blink. You may eat the monsters while they blink, but beware it may turn out that the monster eats you if the effect ends before you get it. When you have eaten all the candies and super-candies, you are taken to a new level and the speed of the game is increased a bit.

In currently sold models, white is opposite yellow, blue is opposite green, and orange is opposite red, and the red, white and blue are arranged in that order in a clockwise arrangement. On early cubes, the position of the colours varied from cube to cube. An internal pivot mechanism enables each face to turn independently, thus mixing up the colours. For the puzzle to be solved, each face must be returned to have only one colour.

Tetris is a simple, yet challenging, game invented by a Russian mathematician. The main object of Tetris is to clear as many lines as possible by manipulating certain shapes which fall from the top of the screen. These shapes are always comprised of 4 blocks (hence the name ‘Tetris’). The player can rotate these shapes left or right and move them into the correct place. When there are ten blocks in a row, that row is cleared and the blocks on top will fall into the newly created gap. Game level gradually accelerates until the blocks build to the top of the screen. When this happens, your game is over.

Zart is a variation on the ‘pillbox’ and ‘bombard’ games of yore. Zart requires two players for regular play, or just one player for practice. There is no computer-controlled player during practice. Zart features real time ‘head-to-head’ play. The controls are very simple yet will take even the most seasoned video game player a few minutes to get used to. The left player controls the base through using the ‘A’ key, and the right player controls the base through using the ‘L’ key.

Zentris is an attempt to provide this concept in a wonderful and beautiful way. I believe it has been a success.
